Heading out to Kyoto tomorrow. Been to Osaka and Tokyo already.

I've never been that far south

I definitely recommend it. Osaka is beautiful, it feels like Melbourne if you took Melbourne from the 1950s and let it grow in Japan. Kyoto was such an interesting place, so traditional. If I go back I'd like to spend more time there.

Osaka, Kyoto, Nara and Hiroshima were all fairly easy to get to from each other with a JR Pass and the Shinkansen (bullet train).

Gosh I wanna be back there.

I need to work on my Kansai dialect in Osaka and Kyoto. Hiroshima is a different animal.
